At the ESA event during the Paris Air Show (SAIE Le Bourget), CompPair was proud and honoured to receive the FIRST! Reusability Award, a recognition under the European Space Agency’s Future Launchers Preparatory Programme (FLPP).

This award celebrates disruptive technologies that enable a sustainable and competitive space transportation ecosystem, supporting Europe's vision of reusable, low-impact space infrastructure.

🔧 About the project: GENESIS

Our winning project, GENESIS (cryoGEnic taNks made of hEalable compoSItes: Sub-scale parts), proposes a groundbreaking approach: building repairable cryogenic composite tanks for reusable space launch structures using HealTech™ slit tapes, specially developed for extreme space conditions.

The GENESIS project aims to increase the maturity of this technology and de-risk its implementation in reusable launch systems. The key validation objectives include:

✔️ Compatibility with industrial winding processes

✔️ Feasibility of complex geometry fabrication

✔️ Performance under typical cryogenic operating conditions

🤝 A collaborative effort

CompPair is proud to lead this project with:

🔹 Invent as the main partner, supporting manufacturing and ground testing of sub-scale cryogenic tank demonstrators.

🔹 Orbex, contributing as an end user, bringing strategic input to align the solution with real-world use cases for reusable launchers.

🚀 Looking ahead

This project represents a significant milestone in advancing reusability in space structures, pushing material science forward through innovation, circularity, and resilience.

We thank ESA for their trust and support, and we’re excited to continue shaping the future of sustainable space transportation—together with our partners.

This ESA recognition for CompPair's GENESIS project is truly impressive! Their healable composite technology for cryogenic tanks could revolutionize reusable launchers. The collaboration with Invent and Orbex shows great potential for practical implementation. When I'm not following space innovations, I enjoy playing Infinite Craft where I can create my own universe by combining elements - somewhat like how CompPair is combining materials science with space technology!
